Gilding is the decorative technique of applying fine leafs of precious metal to a solid surface such as wood, stone, or metal.
The Gold and metallic shining, floral and abstract themed images remind of the traditional japanese Byobu wall screens.
Contrary to the asian screens my work is exclusively created in a collage technique without any paint, brushes or liquid colours. The materials are metal leaf, paladium leaf, gold leaf and a special color dyed, hand made silver leaf from Japan which is originally used for the manufacturing of Kimonos and Nishijin Brocade.
If you would like to know more about the materials I use:
Gold leaf
available in a wide variety of carats and shades. 23-carat gold is the most commonly used variety. The traditional method of manufacturing gold leaf is a process called goldbeating.
Colored silver leaf
A real silver leaf that is hand colored and comes in many different color shades. Traditionally used in Japan for the manufacture of Kimono and Nishijin-brocade.
Metal leaf
also called composition leaf or Schlagmetall, is a thin metal foil that comes in many different shades of metal colors such as gold silver and copper.
